Hill House, Manningtree

Refurbishment and Repair

This substantial Grade II listed building in Manningtree, Essex, mostly dates from 1740, however elements of the timber framed structure are Tudor.

During the 1960's and 70's it was owned by a company who split it into two flats for employees, boarding out much of the interior and covering over some of its best features.

Barefoot & Gilles worked with the new owner and his contractor to strip back the modern additions, restoring the interior layout to a single house. The process uncovered an inadequate internal gutter which had caused substantial rotting to the timber structure. We retained the existing structure where possible, using visible repairs to comply with best practice. Specialists in tiling, window refurbishment and timber repair worked with us to return the house to a home full of character and fit for 21st Century living.
