Attractive Affordable Housing
on a Brownfield Site
This former landfill site had access restrictions and did not appear an attractive prospect for new homes, but it also had a river frontage and was close to the town centre, where there is a high need for affordable housing.
We brought the site to our clients, Suffolk Heritage Housing Association and Shaftesbury Housing Association, with a proposal to develop 100% affordable homes in two phases. Our design overcame the site’s problems and we achieved planning consent for an attractive development of 47 units including 8 move-on homes for people with mental health issues. This significant development also includes an upgraded river frontage, cycle path and public open space which have been adopted by Ipswich Borough Council.
